Going to the beach? Must get taffy…

0

Fourth of July weekend I found myself in the throng of beach-bound travelers headed to Ocean City, New Jersey. While there, it’s a family tradition to stop into one of the salt water taffy makers on the boardwalk and watch the making of the taffy. The machines they use to make and wrap the taffy are mystical to behold. I’m always fascinated when the log of taffy (probably a foot in diameter) gets squeezed into those small, two-bite-sized pieces.
While I’m staring through the glass at the temperature controlled taffy kitchen, my daughter is making the rounds selecting the 5, no, 10, no, 20 pieces she’s allowed to purchase. Okay, I’m just as soft as taffy in the sun when it comes to spoiling her, but it’s only once a year.
I purchased a pound to bring into the office and they didn’t last long. Everyone loves a taste of the shore.
